Contact Arc Suppressor
Increase contact reliability and significantly reduce maintenance
costs.
Decrease maintenance costs, increase contact
reliability/dependability, and reduce destructive dc circuit
overvoltages by applying
the self-powered SEL-9502 Contact Arc Suppressor to dc circuits.
When
parting contacts interrupt current, arcing occurs, causing
the contacts to wear. The SEL-9502 smoothly interrupts the
current,
over a few milliseconds. The SEL-9502 absorbs the inductive
energy of the circuit and dissipates it as heat, instead of
dissipating
the energy by vaporizing or welding the metal of the contacts.
Contacts carry current (with no voltage drops) when they are
closed and block current when they are open. The SEL-9502 enables
an arc-free
interruption, which significantly extends the life of the contacts.

SEL-9501 Contact Arc Suppressor
- Increase existing contact interrupt rating to 10A @ 160 Vdc
for circuits with less than or equal to 40ms.
- Installs easily with two-terminal connection: connect the
red lead to contact +Vdc, the black lead to contact -Vdc.
- Withstands interrupting 10 A of trip coil current four times
in three seconds; trip/high-speed reclose/trip/delayed reclose/trip/delayed
recloser/trip.
- Protects many contact types including 52a, 52b, trip, close,
lockout coil, auxiliary, and control switch.
- Connect across auxiliary contacts, lockout switch contacts,
trip contacts/close contacts, PLCs, sensitive communication
contacts, and SCADA contacts.
- Protects the contact by actually interrupting the current.
- It also increases contact reliability, reduces contact monitoring,
eliminates contact service and maintenance, eliminates contact
arcing in dc circuits, reduces voltage stress with smooth current
interruption, and reduces dc circuit "noise."
